![]() ![]() Tracy Chapman, along with Suzanne Vega, brought female-fronted folk music to the forefront and the mainstream in the late eighties. My clear personal favourite is Tracy Chapman, and not just because it has the wonderful "Fast Car"-it's the album where her voice sounds the freshest and most original, and where her political lyrics seem the most creative and the least bombastic-mostly because here she's showing rather than telling. I would say that only one album of hers, any one, would be essential to have in my collection.
